Diabetic Foot Laboratory & Advanced Diagnostic Center
Our Diabetic Foot Laboratory represents a state-of-the-art diagnostic and research facility dedicated exclusively to the prevention, early detection, and management of diabetic foot complications. As one of the few comprehensive diabetic foot labs in the region, we integrate advanced technologies with clinical expertise to identify foot problems at their earliest stages—often before patients notice symptoms.
We employ a multidisciplinary team including podiatrists, vascular specialists, neurologists, and wound care specialists utilizing cutting-edge equipment for comprehensive assessment. Our lab serves as both a diagnostic center and educational resource, providing patients and healthcare providers with detailed insights into diabetic foot pathology and personalized prevention strategies.
Comprehensive Neuropathy Assessment Suite
We perform detailed neurological evaluation including quantitative sensory testing (vibration perception thresholds, thermal discrimination), nerve conduction studies, autonomic nervous system testing (sudomotor function), and intraepidermal nerve fiber density quantification through skin biopsy when indicated. Our comprehensive approach identifies neuropathy patterns predicting ulcer risk with 85-90% accuracy.
Advanced Vascular & Microcirculatory Assessment
Our vascular lab performs ankle-brachial indices with waveform analysis, toe pressures, transcutaneous oxygen measurements (TcPO2), laser Doppler flowmetry, and skin perfusion pressure measurements. We utilize advanced imaging including contrast-enhanced ultrasound and optical coherence tomography to evaluate microcirculatory changes predictive of healing potential and amputation risk.
Computerized Gait & Pressure Analysis
We employ dynamic plantar pressure measurement systems (EMED, F-Scan) identifying areas of excessive pressure predisposing to ulceration. Our 3D gait analysis includes motion capture technology assessing biomechanical abnormalities contributing to foot deformity development. This data guides prescription of custom orthotics and therapeutic footwear.
Research & Advanced Diagnostic Technologies
Our research division investigates novel biomarkers, imaging modalities, and preventive technologies including hyperspectral imaging, fluorescence microscopy, and artificial intelligence algorithms predicting ulcer development. We participate in multicenter trials evaluating new preventive and therapeutic approaches for diabetic foot complications.

- Comprehensive diabetic foot screening using validated risk classification systems
- Advanced neuropathy assessment with quantitative sensory testing
- Detailed vascular evaluation including microcirculatory assessment
- Computerized gait analysis and plantar pressure measurement
- Biomechanical assessment for custom orthotic prescription
- Educational programs on foot care and ulcer prevention
- Regular surveillance for high-risk patients
- Research participation opportunities for novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches
All diabetic patients should have baseline assessment at diagnosis. Annual evaluation is recommended for all diabetic patients, with higher-risk patients (neuropathy, vascular disease, deformity, previous ulcer) requiring 3-6 month intervals. Our risk stratification system identifies appropriate surveillance frequency based on individual risk factors and previous findings.
Our lab identifies subclinical neuropathy through quantitative testing 6-12 months before symptom development, detects microvascular changes preceding measurable macrovascular disease, quantifies pressure distribution identifying at-risk areas before callus formation, and provides objective measurements tracking progression over time—allowing intervention 12-18 months before ulcer development in most cases.
Results determine ulcer risk category (0-3), guide frequency of professional care (1-6 months), indicate need for specialized footwear (therapeutic vs. custom), identify candidates for preventive procedures (tendon lengthening, exostectomy), and guide vascular referral timing. Our predictive models using lab data have 92% accuracy for identifying patients who will develop ulcers within 12 months.
Yes, our comprehensive assessment identifies at-risk patients 12-24 months before ulcer development, allowing preventive interventions reducing amputation risk by 70-85%. For patients with existing ulcers, our lab guides appropriate offloading, determines healing potential, and identifies need for vascular intervention—reducing amputation rates by 50-60% compared to standard care.
Current research includes hyperspectral imaging for tissue oxygenation mapping, artificial intelligence algorithms predicting ulcer development from thermal images, wearable sensors for continuous pressure monitoring, advanced biomarkers for infection detection, and novel imaging modalities assessing biofilm presence. Our lab participates in 5-10 active research protocols annually.
