Compression remains the cornerstone of venous ulcer management, reducing median healing time from 24+ weeks to 12-16 weeks when properly applied. Four-layer bandage systems achieve 70-80% healing within 12 weeks compared to 30-40% with no compression. While compression alone can achieve healing in 60-70% of cases, recurrence rates reach 70% within 5 years without venous intervention.
